Domainer Community Helps Bushfire Victims

Donations are starting to come in from around the world as the domainer community reaches into its wallet to help those in desperate need. So far $534.69 has been donated to help the victims and I hope and pray that more will be coming soon.
ICANN – Microsoft Collaborates With Industry to Disrupt Conficker Worm

Today, Microsoft announced a partnership with technology industry leaders and academia to implement a coordinated, global response to the Conficker (aka Downadup) worm.
Together with security researchers, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), and operators within the Domain Name System, Microsoft coordinated a response designed to disable domains targeted by Conficker. Microsoft also announced a $250,000 reward for information that results in the arrest and conviction of those responsible for illegally launching the Conficker malicious code on the Internet.

In today’s domain world, the secondary market is the place to shop. Consider it a domain name thrift store, or flea market. You will be hard pressed to find a valuable, generic domain in the primary market. The secondary market is where mny large corporations and end-users are finding the domains they need to supplement their current business presence. As we now know, internet-commerce has exploded, and is not going anywhere anytime soon.

In a little over two weeks, ICANN’s 34th international public meeting will take place in Mexico City.
An intrinsic part of every ICANN meeting is the ability of the community to ask questions and make comments in a public setting. In Mexico City, we will have two main public forums, as well as numerous other open-microphone periods during specific meetings.
ICANN – Public Comment: ALAC Review WG Draft Final Report

The ALAC Review Working Group (WG) has released its draft Final Report [PDF, 309K] presenting its conclusions on ALAC improvements.
The report is posted for discussion and consultation with the ICANN Community, including at the forthcoming ICANN Meeting in Mexico City in March 2009. After the closure of the period for consultation and public comment, the Final Report will be issued and submitted to the Structural Improvements Committee for consideration and submission to the Board for decision.
