Significant changes will come for the irish .ie domain names. Soon businesses in Ireland and individuals will be able to register website addresses that include fadas: á, é, í, ó and ú, for the first time. This admittance of fadas will give Irish businesses the authority to prove their genuineness in the worldwide community online. Thus, prepare to have fadas in your address bar.
IEDR, which is liable for the management and administration of Ireland’s .ie domain, together with PAC have started a 30-day consultation process meant to enable individuals and businesses to use fadas and most of all to express their opinion about how the system should run. To change the review of policy and the suggested launch mechanisms to be understood and considered, registrars, registrants, business community, consumer bodies and public authorities were requested to commit oneselves with this process.
“Our language is a key part of our identity and something which distinguishes us from every other country.” (IEDR chief executive, David Curtin, statement)

All details about how you can register an .ie domain names will be published once the process is finished. But for now there is a campaign launched for individuals, communities and businesses to make their social media channels and websites all green for St Patrick’s Day.
