SIDN, the Dutch Domain Registry in charge of all .nl domain registrations held a Registrar Conference last Friday, November 30th. Approximately 140 visitors attended the conference at the Meeting Plaza in Maarssen, Netherlands. A number of recent developments and plans were discussed during the morning afternoon sessions. One of the highlights were “The plans for 2008″.
SIDN will launch a .nl branding ampaign in Q2/Q3
A new Alternative Dispute Resolution Process will be introduced similar to the Belgian (DNS) ADR
Registrars will have to go through a new accreditation process
SIDN will introduce a new website in 2008
Expired .nl domains will now be subject to a quarantine period before they can be released
Registrar invoices will become available online
Several DRS 4.1 patches; the idea is to raise the frequency of the patches and to reduce the scope
After 2008, SIDN will introduce a series of premium services. In addition to plans for the future, one of the morning sessions provided interesting market information. This information had been obtained by means of a market research with 300 companies (registrants) who own at least 1 .nl domain:
– 87% of Dutch companies prefer the Dutch .nl extension over other TLD’s – The confidence in the .nl extension is higher and most important to them – Registration speed is second priority
– The most important request from the respondents: Get rid of all that paperwork!
Other interesting points which came up:
– One is not geinteresseerd in budget products – Service is very important, the respondenten gave to that one expects of this more
– The average price which one is prepared to pay for a recording/lengthening of nl is 21 euro
