The first ever DomainTools Live Domain Auction took place on Friday, August 17th 2007 during the Domain RoundTable Conference at the Sheraton Hotel in Seattle. According to DomainTools officials the auction was a huge success. They reported that 1,200 online viewers and a live audience of 300 watched this 7 hours long live auction unfold, which resulted in $3.5 million dollars in domain names trading hands. Being able to watch the auction from their website through live video feed was very innovative and certainly contributed to their success.
At the end of the day, 167 domain names out of 450 were sold, which didn’t break the current domain auction record of $10 million dollars by Moniker at the recent TRAFFIC Domain Conference in New York City.
