Taiwan hosted 9.07 million Internet domain names in July 2006, according to the Focus on Internet News and Data and Innovation Diffusion Enabler and Activator of the Advanced e-Commerce Institute (ACI-IDEA-FIND) under the government-sponsored Institute for Information Industry.
The data was based on surveys conducted by the Internet Systems Consortium (ISC, originally named Internet Software Consortium), ACI-IDEA-FIND indicated.
Of the 9.07 million Internet domain names hosted in Taiwan, 4.32 million were for the top-level domain “.tw” and 4.75 million for the second-level domain “.hinet.net,” ACI-IDEA-FIND pointed out. The number, a rough indicator of Taiwan’s Internet hardware serving capacity and size of Internet user base, accounted for 2.06% of the 439.29 million domain names around the world.
Among all country code Top Level Domains (ccTLDs), .tw ranked 11th globally and third in Asia-Pacific (next to .jp with 28.32 million domain names and .au with 7.77 million domain names).
