I think you should use it because there are many whois harvesters around. They use your whois contact details and spam you. Thus arises the need to protect your identity.

Most of the information in whois especially email address is coded and encrypted and that do protect

If a complaint is raised against the domain, at the respective registrar, then the domain owner will have to give out his real contact information.
