One of my mates who is a noob when it comes to web designing or development relied upon a free lance web designer to register his domain, host his site and configure it further. While doing a whois on his domain, we figured out that the freelancer’s group name as the owner’s name instead of my mate’s name (group in the sense his team of workers form a group and they have a group name). I do not know how far it will affect his business but I troubled him a lot to contact back that freelancer team and ask them to change the owner’s name back.
Is it really that mandatory to have the proper owner’s name when we look upon a whois for our domain name? What are the consequences it might cause? And how can we change the whois information?

Hello! Who is domain name owner? I think that you need to move it to the new domain name registrar and then it will be under your control (or friend of you) and then change all details in whois information.
It seems that old trick. But not sure…

I’m afraid but it might be registered under the other company or group and not by your friend…
