Sedo reports secondary domain market up 6.5% in Q1 – Domain Name News, The Domain Industry News, ICANN News, Registry News, Domainer News, Domain

The secondary market for web domain sales rose by 6.5 percent in the first quarter compared to the previous three months, to a total 9,326 names sold, according to a report by domain name marketplace Sedo.
The average selling price was EUR 1,935 per domain, up 14 percent from a year ago. Worldwide, the .com extension accounted for over 75 percent of the top-level domain sales, followed by .net with 9 percent and .info and .org with 7 percent each. The German .de domains led first-quarter sales of geographic designations, with 1,663 sold domains, followed by the UK’s extension .co.uk with 360 and .eu with 246 domains sold in the period. Spain accounted for 7 percent of the market, with 190 .es names sold. The name Fly.com attracted the highest price among Sedo’s sales in Q1, at USD 1.6 million.
