ICANN releases GNSO Initial Report on Domain Tasting

 ICANN is paying attention to the issue of domain tasting. Domain tasting is the practice of registering a domain, and then cancelling it before the five-day grace period is over. This allows a registrant to test the profitability of the domain name without actually paying for it. On any given day, millions of domains are tied up in this process.
Today, following months of research and consultation with various stakeholders, ICANN’s Generic Names Supporting Organization ("GNSO") Council released their Initial Report on Domain Tasting. This is one of the first steps in the policy development process to explore what should be done to curb domain tasting.
ICANN is now accepting public comments on the report for 20 days, which will be included in a Final Report, upon which any policy changes will be based. Source: ICANN Announcement – January 7th, 2008
