Not once have we developed a business because of domain ownership. I believe, for us, we first fall in love with concepts rather then fall in love with domains. It is only after we have a concept in mind we truly feel comfortable with we then either match it with a generic domain within our portfolio, buy a generic domain, or move on and develop on a distinctive domain.
For example, we did not know we would develop FuneralHomes.com until two years ago, which is two years after we initially started building the directory software. We did not know what we would call Lifememory until a year into the project, we did not know what we would call ASSISTA until two years into the project, and we did not develop Flowchart.com because we owned the domain – we went and acquired it because we had a concept in mind.

Brussels, 14 April 2008 – EURid, the European registry for .eu, is pleased to announce that the stability and robustness of the .eu zone have recently been further improved by the addition of three new .eu name servers operated by the company NeuStar. Support for the new IPv6 standard for IP addresses has been introduced to .eu as well.
The three new name servers feature a technology called anycast. This means that even though they operate as one machine from a network perspective, in practise they are spread all over the world. The six original name servers are located throughout Europe in Amsterdam, Brussels, Ljubljana, London, Milan and Prague. Each is connected to the local national Internet Exchange.

This is the second parking company survey that asks domain owners to rate different aspects of the parking company service that they predominantly use. There are 13 short multiple choice questions that only take a few minutes to answer.
The goal of the survey is to provide valuable data that can then be used in discussions with parking companies for the benefit of domain owners. For example the results of the survey were incorporated into a number of presentations that I made at the TRAFFIC conferences. The survey is treated very seriously by the parking companies and changes have been introduced as a direct result of it.

Currently am at San Fransisco Airport, waiting for departure. The trip to this neck of the wood turned out, as always, to be great. After DRT I stopped for half a day at Web 2.0 with friends, was not impressed with what I saw. There’s still massive amount of money flying around chasing pageviews and userbase without any business plan nor bottom line revenue consideration. I understand it works for few however for the vast majority, especially those who do not have other businesses to support this sort of game, it is extremely speculative.
