ICANN Formalizes Relationship with ccTLD Manager for Egypt (.eg)

ICANN has announced today that it has signed an exchange of letters with the country code top level domain (ccTLD) manager for .eg, EUN, .eg Registry Sector. The Accountability Framework program provides two mechanisms by which ccTLD managers can formalise their relationship with ICANN. The first is an Accountability Framework document that sets out the obligations of a ccTLD manager and ICANN. It also covers dispute resolution and termination and is designed for ccTLD managers requiring a formal document with ICANN. Dispute over the .africa TLD

AfriNIC, the African domain registry, has had to postpone its planned November meeting in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa due to disagreement over the future location of a .africa address zone. According to AfriNIC, the hosts, the Ethiopian Telecommunication Corporation, have cancelled the ninth meeting of the African address registry at short notice. The organisation has thus found itself forced to divert to Mauritius. The reason for the Ethiopian cancellation appears to be wrangling over the operation of the planned .africa top-level domain (TLD)…

Washington DC, November 06 – On Wednesday, November 5 The Coalition Against Domain Name Abuse (CADNA) released a statement that implied that cybersquatting is a criminal activity. CADNA said in its release “CADNA has been working diligently to further international and national policies that combat the practice of cybersquatting… As brands continue to learn about the prevalence and practice of online criminal activities…” Internet Commerce Association vigorously opposes cybersquatting. However, it is important to note that cybersquatting is a civil matter, not a criminal one…

The new weekly domain sales report is out at DNJournal.com. Another big wave of completed live auction sales from the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. New York conference dominates this week’s domain sales chart. To make room for those sales we expanded our usual Top 20 chart to 30 positions. Moniker swept the top three spots with BirthdayPresents.com, Plans.com and Date.me. The latter name was one of four .me (Montenegro ccTLD) domains to crash the all extension leader board. You can get all of the details here.
