Ron Jackson’s latest Lowdown post deals with effects of the decline in PPC revenue. Observers, he says, will continue to see more and more domain owners developing at least a few of their names into websites. Page Howe of JoeDomains.com, who was the subject of DNJournal’s August Cover Story, is rolling out a series of specialized stores using NameMedia’s Smart Name Shops platform. The first example is BasketballJerseyStore.com which caught my eye because of the basketball player pictured at the bottom of the home page who bears a striking resemblance to Howe himself.

ICANN – AGP Deletes Down by 84%

In June 2008, the ICANN Board approved the FY09 Budget that contained a provision on AGP deletes. The provision is that domain names deleted during the AGP will be included as transactions if they exceed the maximum of (i) 10% of that registrar’s net new registrations in that month, or (ii) fifty (50) domain names, whichever is greater. A while back we reported about the domain dispute surrounding the registration of the domain name Narnia.mobi. This domain had been registered by parents as a gift to their Narnia obsessed child. Since the parents refused to return the domain name to the Narnia trademark holders, they were eventually forced to surrender the domain name. How the WIPO came up with their decision and the details surrounding this case is what we would like to analyze today…

Termination of Registrar EstDomains to Go Ahead

The termination of ICANN-accredited registrar EstDomains is to go ahead, effective 24 November 2008. On 28 October 2008, ICANN sent a notice of termination to EstDomains, Inc. (EstDomains) based on an Estonian Court record reflecting the conviction of EstDomains’ then president, Vladimir Tsastsin, of credit card fraud, money laundering and document forgery. SGNIC Announces Launch of Single Character Domain Names

On 12 November 2008, the Singapore Network Information Centre (SGNIC) announced the launch of single character domain names ("Allocation Exercise"). Single character domain names such as www.a.sg and www.b.sg will be possible in Singapore come next year and will be distributed according to the "Allocation Exercise" table listed below.
The Allocation Exercise will commence on December 1st, 2008 and ends on March 27th 2009. Applications are available across all the domain name categories, namely .sg, .com.sg, .org.sg, .net.sg, .edu.sg, .gov.sg, .per.sg. All applications must be submitted via SGNIC’s accredited registrars from 1 December 2008 onwards and must reach SGNIC by 5pm, 9 January 2009…
