Tourism Ireland acquired recently Ireland.com domain name from The Irish Times Ltd,according to an article from The Irish Times.
Niall Gibbons ,Tourism Ireland Chief Executive said that the company acquired Ireland.com domain name because it was a "natural fit" to promote Ireland all over the world.
Tourism Ireland has paid for the deal a fee of €495,000 to The Irish Times.
“We are very pleased that the organisation responsible for promoting the island of Ireland overseas will have the opportunity to leverage the brand and URL that is ireland.com,” said Liam Kavanagh,the Irish Times managing director .
“From an Irish Times perspective, we will now focus on the continued development of irishtimes.com and to position it at home and internationally as Ireland’s leading quality news and information website,” Kavanagh added .
The Irish Times Ltd acquired the domain name in 1997 and used it for more than ten years to host content from the newspaper,as well as a breaking news service .Eleven ears later,in 2008,the company decided to provide through IrishTimes.com all the compan’s editorial content.
