ICANN Board Meeting with Governmental Advisory Committee was set for 28 February,2011 – DomainNews

ICANN Board and the Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC) set the date for their meeting for 28 February 2011 .
According to Stephane Van Gelder ,ICANN told GAC representatives to plan a 2 day meeting on February 28 and March 1 ,2011 .The meeting will be held before the San Francisco meeting,in order to resolve more issues on the new gTLD program."…the GAC will provide the Board at the earliest opportunity witha list or "scorecard" of the issues which the GAC feels are stilloutstanding and require additional discussion between the Board andthe GAC. These include:• The objection procedures including the requirements forgovernments to pay fees;• Procedures for the review of sensitive strings;• Root Zone Scaling;• Market and Economic Impacts;• Registry – Registrar Separation;• Protection of Rights Owners and consumer protection issues;• Post-delegation disputes with governments;• Use and protection of geographical names;• Legal recourse for applicants;• Providing opportunities for all stakeholders including those fromdeveloping countries;• Law enforcement due diligence recommendations to amend theRegistrar Accreditation Agreement as noted in the BrusselsCommuniqué; and• The need for an early warning to applicants whether a proposedstring would be considered controversial or to raise sensitivities
(including geographical names).",said the GAC Communique .
