Identity-based Domains to Launch: .tel and .mp

Two new domain-based identity sites, .tel and chi.mp, are addressed by CNet. Telnic launch .tel this week at DemoFall and Chi.mp launches in San Francisco next week.
The posting suggests "these two companies make a trend, but I’m not convinced it’s a long-lived one."
While both companies offer a similar concept – you get your own domain name in .tel or .mp, "and then use it as a hub for your online identities and content. The sites will offer some blend of a business card function, like Plaxo, and personal feed aggregaton, like Friendfeed." Chi.mp is a free service, while .tel is a paid for service. The article suggests "the idea of using a top-level domain with a vanity URL as personal calling card is a gimmick."
