DENIC announced in an email to members last week that they, along with the ccTLD managers from .it, .be, .si, .lt and .hr, have applied for membership to the ccNSO – the Country Code Names Supporting Organization of ICANN.

Today (March 2), the .ME Registry announced a partnership with Sedo to list 35 of the most desirable .ME domain names at auction. Online bidding for these names begins March 26, 2009 and remains open until April 02, 2009.

4 March 2009 – Mexico City, Mexico – An important element of ICANN’s consideration of the introduction of new gTLDs is consumer benefit as well as pricing issues.
ICANN commissioned an independent third-party report and retained Dennis Carlton, who is a Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago and who, from 2006 to 2008, was the highest-ranking economist in the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. Professor Carlton also is a Senior Managing Director of Compass Lexecon, a prestigious economic consulting firm that specializes in competition matters.

ICANN appointed the Boston Consulting Group/Colin Carter & Associates to perform the external review of its Board of Directors.
Following publication of the independent reviewers’ report and of the feedbacks received from the community during a public comment period , the Board review Working Group issued an Interim Report for consultation with the Community, which was presented at the ICANN meeting in Mexico City.

Mexico City, Mexico — 2 March 2009 — Founders and leaders of the Internet today praised the achievements of Dr Paul Twomey, the President and Chief Executive Officer of ICANN, after learning that Twomey had advised ICANN’s Board of Directors that he will not seek renewal of his contract and will move on from ICANN at the end of 2009.
Twomey announced his decision at the opening session of ICANN’s 34th International Public Meeting in Mexico City, which has drawn more than 1,200 attendees from every corner of the globe.

Paul Twomey, ICANN’s CEO and President, has publicly announced at the opening session of ICANN’s 34th International Public Meeting in Mexico City, which has drawn more than 1,200 attendees from all over the world, that he will not be seeking to renew his contract for another three years when it comes up for renewal July 1, 2009.

In the last couple of days documentation has been lodged with the Supreme Court of Queensland that has confirmed that the Australian domain industry regulator, au Domain Administration Ltd, has invented complaints in order to strip businesses of their Au domains.
For example, the auDA compliance officer (Shane Honey) under instructions from the CEO (Chris Dispain) was told to send an email to the company Domain Directors regarding the domain auregistry.com.au and give them only 48 hours to respond prior to the domain auregistry.com.au being taken from them. What’s worse is that Domain Director’s has owned and operated auregistry.com.au as a registrar for the past 8 years!
ICANN Publishes 2009 Semi-Annual Contractual Compliance Report

ICANN’s Contractual Compliance Department published its third Semi-Annual Contractual Compliance Report [PDF, 1,100K]. This report summarizes ICANN’s compliance activities from July 2008 through January 2009. During this period, ICANN updated two audits and commenced two additional audits in addition to continuing work on studies and escalated compliance actions. ICANN conducted each audit by following consistent audit procedures established before each audit commenced. This report contains details regarding the audit methodology, findings, observations and conclusions.
