ICANN – Independent Reviewer’s Report on the ICANN Board

ICANN’s Board has been provided with the Boston Consulting Group/Colin Carter & Associates’ independent review of the Board . This report will be used to inform ICANN’s effort to develop detailed proposals for improving the Board’s structure and processes. The Board has not had an opportunity to discuss the Report, but will consider it along with the ICANN community. As with other independent reviews of ICANN structures, the Board invites public input on the Report, and encourages the community to post their comments to the public forum that has been opened on this topic. The independent evaluators will discuss the Report in a public workshop in Cairo scheduled for 1800 on Monday in Al Saraya 2,3,4. .TEL, the new Top Level Domain ready to take off

Luxembourg, 3rd November 2008 – While ICANN has just published the new generic top-level domain Applicant Guidebook draft, the recently accepted .TEL Top Level Domain is in the starting blocks and will take off on the 3rd of December.

In recent years, ICANN has taken many steps to improve transparency and accountability in its operations. Most notably, a detailed budget process and disclosure process has been developed (see: http://www.icann.org/en/financials/proposed-opplan-budget-v1-fy09-17may08-en.pdf [PDF, 355K] for the most recent detailed budget).
About one year ago, ICANN began reporting metrics for each month to the public website on a "dashboard ". Over that period, ICANN has published monthly financial information (both revenue and expense) and IANA metrics on queue times for request processing.
Huge demand for .tel from registrars as 100 sign up with Telnic

Today at SYSTEMS 08, Telnic Limited, the Registry Operator for the new .tel Top Level Domain (TLD) announced that one hundred ICANN-accredited registrars had signed an agreement to sell .tel domain names well in advance of its launch.

Following the recommendation from the IDNC WG Final report, ICANN sent letters to all countries and territories requesting information about their interest in participating in the Fast Track process. A sample letter is available at http://www.icann.org/en/announcements/announcement-02oct08-en.htm
The request for information included a brief questionnaire intended to ascertain interest in the Fast Track Process.
Part 1 – Results of the Domain Parking Attitudes and Experience Survey 2008

This is the first part of a three part series that I will release over the next few days on the domain parking survey that concluded a few weeks ago. This was exactly the same questionnaire that I used in 2007 and compared to 2008 the results proved to be surprising.
I would first like to thank all of the people that took the time to answer the questions. Without people who contribute in this fashion it’s much more difficult to bring positive changes to our industry. I hope that you enjoy reading the results of your survey!

DUBLIN, Ireland and WASHINGTON, DC – October 31, 2008 – dotMobi, the company behind the .mobi Internet domain, today announced that industry veteran Pinkard Alan "Pinky" Brand has been appointed to the position of Director of Global Domain Sales at dotMobi.
Brand, who has more than 12 years experience in the domain industry, is charged with building the ongoing use of the .mobi domain, designed to help consumers find content that works on mobile phones. In his role, Brand will work closely with the more than 135 .mobi registrars throughout the world as well as with domain investors to help ensure that .mobi continues its role as the primary naming convention for locating mobile content.

ICANN has announced today that it has signed an exchange of letters with the country code top level domain (ccTLD) manager for .cc-Cocos (Keeling) Islands, eNIC Cocos ( Keening) Islands Pty Ltd.
The Accountability Framework program provides two mechanisms by which ccTLD managers can formalise their relationship with ICANN. The first is an Accountability Framework document that sets out the obligations of a ccTLD manager and ICANN. It also covers dispute resolution and termination and is designed for ccTLD managers requiring a formal document with ICANN.
