When it comes to Internet access, is there such a thing as too fast? That’s a question U.S. Internet providers are grappling with as they place strategic bets on whether or not to upgrade their networks to offer high-priced, superhigh-speed Web connections.

Microsoft still Favorite in Battle for Yahoo

Yahoo Inc.’s directors meet Friday to discuss alternatives to a Microsoft Corp. takeover, with many insiders still seeing a Microsoft deal — without the participation of News Corp. — as the most likely outcome.
Behind the battle over Yahoo is a scramble by Internet and media giants to capture the flood of advertising dollars expected to move online and block Google Inc. from extending its Web-search-ad domination.
Aside from Microsoft’s solo bid, Yahoo’s directors will likely discuss a plan under which Time Warner Inc. would fold its AOL unit into Yahoo in exchange for a roughly 20% stake in Yahoo.

Afternic Announces Its Now Easier to Find Premium Domains

Afternic have announced they have made changes to Afternic Auctions, their expiring domain auction service, which makes it easier to find exclusive premium domains.
There is now the ability to see how many PreOrders have been submitted on a domain before its live auction starts. This makes it easier to easily find the hottest domains. Or there is the option of spotting the domains with the least competition by finding domains without any or with few PreOrders.
Huston and Michaelson on IPv6 Deployment: Just Where Are We?

Geoff Huston and George Michaelson recently wrote an article published on Circle ID on IPv6 and looks at where we are now. They say following the stories of impending doom for IPv4 addresses running out, that didn’t eventuate as predicted, we are now getting to the stage where we really will run out of addresses. They write that since "Since 2005 we’ve been consuming IPv4 addresses at a rate of some 160 million addresses per year, and what’s left in the IPv4 unallocated address pool looks like lasting for no more than another 3 years."

Domain Round Table (DRT) is starting next Friday in San Francisco and I’m sure that it will be an outstanding event. I couldn’t help myself, the allure of all those great domainers in one place was too much with the result I’m once again heading across the Pacific to join with my friends in celebration of our great industry.What a grand statement that was! Happily it’s true! Next Friday I’m boarding a plane to travel to DRT and while I’m there I’ve been asked to moderate a number of sessions relating to domain parking. The two sessions are:
