DNS.be ,the company behind .de domain names,published a list of 10 questions and answers on gTLDs .vlaanderen and .brussels,for which DNS.be is applying with ICANN: Who can register a domain name?.vlaanderen: probably everyone (companies, individuals, organisations, governments, …), the details are still to be discussed with the Flemish government..brussels: probably everyone (companies, individuals, organisations, governments, …), the details are still to be discussed with the Brussels government.Timing?The timing is not certain yet; it will highly depend on ICANN. We expect ICANN to have evaluated the applications for the gTLDs in the middle of 2013 at the latest. DNS.be takes into account a period of approximately 9 months (after the delegation of the gTLD by ICANN) to get fully operational. Price?Like with .be, DNS.be will be operating an indirect purchase model in which the registrars are the ones who sell domain names. Prices will be comparable to the market prices set by other new gTLDs. This means prices will be higher than a .be the first few years, due to the investment for starting up.topRegistrars?ICANN determined that only ICANN Accredited Registrars can register domain names. In Belgium only bNamed, Register and Netbulk are. They can nevertheless cooperate with resellers. Like with .be, DNS.be won’t be a .be registrar itself. As a matter of fact registration will not be restricted to Belgian accredited registrars. And thus to stimulate the online market.The Brussels government wants to emphasize Brussel’s international character online and thus attract more tourism, sports events, business events, cultural happenings and festivities in Brussels.For .vlaanderen the objective is to enable citizens and companies to link online to Flanders’ values, to the local market as to outlet, production or origin. Thus to build a strong brand both nationally and internationally.
