The Australian Football League (AFL) has recently applied for its own internet address, .AFL .If the application will be successful,AFL websites will end in .AFL . When asked why they decided to make this move,Andrew Catterall,AFL’s general manager strategy & marketing said that they decided to apply for its own internet address because they want to create a "trust environment" within the AFL brand."We have made a bunch of long-term decisions on the expansion of the code, investment in stadiums and grassroots football and we see this as an extension of this strategy," he also said.The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) approved ".anything" extensions in June ,2011 .The cost of a single domain is $185,000 plus a minimum $25,000 per year to maintain.
ICANN will notify successful applicants at the end of the year.
