  • The Ultimate Guide To Local Search Optimization In 2016 – Domain & SEO News

    Local Search Optimization has taken business owners by surprise in the last couple of years, especially after the Hummingbird Update was released by Google in 2013. While search engine optimization has changed hugely, much of it remains complicated. If you are concerned local search optimization, here are some of the great ideas that will help in getting started.
    Get the basics
    First and foremost, it is very essential to claim and get the business listing for your business for every location. You will need to decide on a few consistent things, which include address, name and contact numbers. It is also essential to have a local number wherever available and complete the profile in detail. Add things like business hours, category and keywords that may be relevant for local searches. Also, you need to spend some time claiming business listings for other search sites, which includes Bing Places, Yelp, Aabaco Small Business and Apple maps. Add all the relecant social media elements to your website, including Twitter, YouTube and Instagram. Just in case you don’t have a linkedIn account as yet, spend time on that, as well.
    Spread your business
    You will find citations to be extremely important for your businesses with regards to local search optimization. Look for additional sites and directories, where you can place your business. You can look for national citations, as well, because they often offer information to smaller sites, along with the search engines. If you need to pay for citations, check wisely for the same.
    Get small things right
    People read what others have to say about your business, so make sure that you gather as many reviews as possible, even if you get a couple of bad ones. If you are in 2016, you need to make use of keywords on your pages, so that the search engines can get a hang of the same. Add keywords that are relevant for your business, which includes the Google category, and the content should be decent and engaging enough with at least 300 words. Experts also suggest adding the location of your business on the webpage for better results. It is also essential that your site loads easily, while at the same time, you might want to add a few relevant and authentic external links.
    Focus on content
    Search Engine Optimisation in 2016 will continue to focus on content, so you should spend time and energy on creating more valuable content that readers want to read and the search engines love to see. Depending on your business type, you need to also focus on getting backlinks for your website. Keep in mind that the backlinks should come from high authority sites, so as to get any benefit from the same. Guest posting can be a good idea worth exploring, but requires planning and association with good blogs and sites.
    With these basics in place, you should not have a tough time optimizing your business locally. Make sure to keep a track of your growth, so that you can identify the hits and misses.

  • How to deal with Content Plagiarism

    Does this scenario sound familiar? You are surfing the web, trying to find some topics related to a recent post you published on your blog. Hoping that you can find some people to crosslink with, you are surprised when you find a post on another site that looks a lot like your own. No… it looks exactly like your own. Someone has stolen your content!
    It would be nice to say that this is a rare occurrence, but we all known better. Plagiarism is a common crime, especially from blogs that don’t have the team of lawyers of larger sites and companies to protect their copyright. But what makes it worse is that often scrapers and scammers who steal this content end up with higher rankings in search engines as they use unethical tactics to draw traffic.
    This means that even though you wrote it first, it is possible that your site could be outranked by someone else using it. Your blog might be filtered by Google, and it can be difficult to prove that you were the original owner and so deserve the top spot.
    Don’t scream in frustration just yet. The best way to fight plagiarism is to prevent it, and there are ways to do that.
    Copyright Your Content
    It isn’t airtight protection, but it can stop casual snatchers from taking your work without permission. Just provide a small copyright notice at the end of the post, stating that you maintain all rights over what has been written. This should contain the year, as well. It will look like this: © Bob Smith 2012, All Rights Reserved.
    Many bloggers will just put this in the bottom of the page theme, implying that all content posted is protected.
    Use Plagiarism Detectors
    If you are worried that content might have been stolen, there are various tools that will allow you to search for things taken in part, or in full. Some of them are:
    How to Deal with Plagiarized Content
    Once you find who steals your content, submit a DMCA complaint with Google which is pretty easy and you won’t need any legal help with it. Google is pretty quick at processing them too: It is reported to be removing one million pages a month as a result of DMCA reports!
    You may also want to use WordPress plugins to combat illegal content copying:
    (This site has a very detailed guide on how to install WordPress plugins in case you are at a loss!)

  • .INSURANCE Domains – Soon Available For Everyone

    On May 31st, 2012 ftLD Registry Services LLC applied for the .insurance and .bank TLDs. According to their head of operations, Craig Schwartz , this partnership aimed to
    “provide the highest security for the millions of customers conducting banking and insurance activities online and to ensure the safety and soundness of the industry”.
    Now, the .insurance domains are up for the taking with general availability starting with June 15th 2016.
    What the .insurance gTLDs will offer, will be a trusted brand and protection to the users. Also, the insurance providers will have the opportunity to enlarge their marketplace with this new internet presence specially designed for them. The .insurance domains come with heighten security systems that outrun the current .com solutions.
    But not everyone will be eligible to own and administrate .insurance domains. ftLD Registry Services LLC announced very strict eligibility criteria and also a fixed timeline for applications. In order to benefit of .insurance domains, you must be a verified member of the global insurance community. More specifically, only companies, organizations and individuals which are part of the industry as detailed by them:
    1. Insurance companies established by a government authority (e.g., licensed, certified);
    2. Brokers/brokerages, licensed insurance agents/agencies or other counterparts (e.g., intermediaries) established by a government authority;
    3. Associations with members mostly composed of entities or individuals presented above in 1 or 2;
    4. Groups of associations with members mostly composed of associations presented above in 3;
    5. Service providers mainly owned by or mostly backing established entities presented above in 1 or 2 ( only authorized by the Registry Operator Board of Directors); and
    6. Agents/agencies, government regulators of insurance companies, brokers/brokerages or other counterparts (e.g., intermediaries) or organizations composed of government regulators (only authorized by the Registry Operator Board of Directors).
    Over 50 founding members and endorsers of the fTLD Registry, who own authenticated trademarks, had the opportunity to register .insurance domains in the Pre-Launch period, between the 3rd – 9th of May. To name a few, we’re talking about Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America, State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company, Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association Inc., Property Casualty Insurers Association of America, Insurance Europe, National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies, Reinsurance Association of America and many others.
    After the Pre-Launch, follows the Sunrise period (9th May – 8th June 2016) and the Founders’ Period ( 9th June – 14th June 2016), concluding in the opening for General Availability on the 15th June 2016.
    It is at utmost importance that eligible entities that wish to register for .insurance domains, fill in and submit their applications as soon as possible! Considering that the timeline of the applications will be a deciding factor in granting .insurance domains (first-come, first-served service policy for all periods), time must not be spared in order to secure the domain name you desire. Factoring also that the domain will be available internationally, and that only in the USA there are over 38000 insurance providers, competition for the domain names will be fairly high.
    The new domain will hopefully inspire the same kind of trust and confidence the .bank domains have gained since it’s debut in May 2015. Having higher technical standards, strict verification and eligibility criteria for the domain names owners will help boost the insurance business in the online world and give it a competitive edge with this new online space.

  • DI Research Indicates 1/10 New gTLDs Are Becoming Smaller

    DI research shows that at the least 1 in 10 individual new gTLD are becoming smaller.
    The research was made on 334 gTLDs from the first 2012 round, disregarding any dot-brand and any gTLD that had general availability date starting with March 14, 2015. It’s purpose was to select gTLDs with at least one year old in order to better analyze their grown rates.
    It seems that volume doesn’t represent a way to measure success for dot-brands, especially because only registries can own names.
    Following the research it was found out that:
    96 (28.7%) were lower June 1 than they were 30 days earlier.
    104 (31.1%) were lower June 1 than they were 90 days earlier.
    76 (22.7%) were lower June 1 than they were 366 days earlier.
    35 (10.4%) were lower on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
    You could say that if a gTLD has become lower over the last month, quarter or year it is “shrinking”.
    Here are some examples of TLDs that “shrank” over time.

    Most of the shrank domains belong to Donuts, that pointed out the company has been targeting small and medium businesses and avoid the aggressive promotions.
